The sense of touch is one of the central forms of perceptual experience. Touch occurs across the whole body, using a variety of receptors in the skin. Medical studies have shown that a lack of touch correlates with anxiety, depression, and stress. Touch releases oxytocin. To be held is the first in a series of performances exploring skin hunger. Through video, sound, and spoken word, the artist engages in various somatic practices to regulate her nervous system.
